Associate Membership

Structured for pre-cocoon and post-cocoon ecosystem participants, this membership builds quality production pipelines, market linkages, and institutional collaboration.

A. Pre Cocoon Enrollment

I. Grainages

Designed for public and private grainage units involved in the production and supply of quality silkworm seeds (disease-free layings - DFL). Eligible members should be registered entities adhering to standard grainage protocols, hygiene practices and quality certification norms. Membership provides access to technical support, improved breed resources, and collaboration with research institutions for seed quality enhancement. Grainage members benefit from strong linkages with chawki rearers and sericulture farmers, ensuring timely and reliable supply of high-quality silkworm seeds, thereby strengthening the foundation of the silk value chain.

II. Chawki Rearing Centers (CRC)

For entrepreneurs and progressive farmers involved in early-stage silkworm rearing (chawki stage). This membership supports the production and supply of healthy, disease-free chawki worms to farmers. Members benefit from technical training, standardized rearing protocols, disease monitoring support and strong linkage with farmer clusters to ensure uniform crop establishment and risk reduction.

III. Mulberry Nursery Entrepreneurs

For individuals or enterprises involved in nursery development and sapling production. This membership enables access to scientific nursery practices, quality planting material standards, and institutional support for scaling up mulberry plantation initiatives.

B. Post Cocoon Enrollment

I. Reelers

For entrepreneurs and institutions involved in silk reeling, twisting and yarn production. Eligible units should operate within Maharashtra and adhere to quality standards and ethical production practices. Membership offers access to trained farmers, quality cocoons and industry collaborations for enhancing raw silk output and reeling efficiency.

II. Hand-loom Units

Intended for skilled weavers, handloom operators and family-run artisan units involved in silk-based fabric production. Eligible members can benefit from design innovation support, market exposure and access to raw silk supply chains through MSA networks. The membership promotes preservation and modernization of Maharashtra’s traditional silk weaving heritage.

III. Power Loom Units

Designed for registered power loom owners and operators engaged in weaving silk or blended fabrics. Members gain opportunities for design innovation, skill upgradation and direct linkages with reelers, dyers and traders. The membership strengthens Maharashtra’s silk weaving clusters by promoting modernized, high-efficiency powerloom practices.

IV. Apparel Manufacturing Units

For garment producers, fashion designers and textile enterprises using silk fabrics in apparel creation. Eligible members can access MSA’s raw silk supply chain, artisan collaborations and branding platforms. The membership supports product diversification, quality improvement and promotion of Maharashtra silk in national and global markets.

C. Traders

Silk & Apparel Traders: Open to wholesalers, retailers, and exporters trading in silk yarn, fabric and finished garments. Members benefit from verified sourcing channels, quality assurance partnerships, and participation in MSA trade fairs and buyer-seller meets. This membership fosters transparent and sustainable trade relationships across the silk value chain.

D. Government Agencies:

Government Agencies & Institutions: For sericulture departments, research institutions, and public-sector organizations engaged in silk development and rural livelihoods. Membership enables collaboration, knowledge exchange, and implementation of large-scale development programs within the sericulture ecosystem.
